KEXP
App redesign
A mobile app redesign for KEXP, a nonprofit listener-supported radio station reaching over 200,000 global listeners weekly. The project focused on creating a more engaging experience that surfaced the depth of KEXP's show archives and made donating easier for the dedicated listeners who keep the station running.

The ask
Thinking about interpreting an unclear or possibly misspelled requestThe existing app lacked engagement and didn't reflect the richness of what KEXP offers. Completed as part of the School of Visual Concepts UI/UX certificate program, the project focused on two clear priorities: making the donation flow more prominent and frictionless for loyal supporters, and surfacing KEXP's extensive show archives in a way that felt intuitive and inviting rather than buried.
Planning and strategy
The project began with user flow mapping and persona development to understand the two primary audiences: regular listeners who browse and stream, and dedicated supporters who donate. A style guide and component foundations were established before moving into wireframes, ensuring design decisions were grounded in both brand and usability from the start.

The designs
The final designs introduced a clean interface built around horizontal scrolling navigation, a collapsible mini player that keeps listening uninterrupted while users browse, and a streamlined donation flow designed to reduce steps and remove friction for contributors.
